Thomas Bessas

Seeing Through the Martian DustThe Baader 685 nm filter has a well-deserved reputation for mitigating the effects of poor seeing when doing Lunar imaging. This year (2018) it proved its worth by permitting the imaging of Martian surface features, despite the veil of dust raised by the planet-wide storm. The 685 nm images stand alone or can be used, in combination with the very uninformative visible light views of the planet, to create interesting color images that mimic much of the detail of normal RGB images in the absence of the atmospheric dus (see attached image composite). The benefits of this filter can be realized with instruments of modest aperture.Ralph

Paech

Baader IR-Pass Filter and Colour Filter... a couple of days ago I bought a couple of Baader color filters. I had the opportunity to shoot the planet Saturn under a very good seeing and to make some pictures of it through our Baader filters : the new IR 685nm, the RG 610nm, the Blue 470nm and the IR-cut. I'm glad to inform you that I'm very happy with your filters because the images through them are absolutely great. I could obtain very good results with my beloved orange Celestron 14. I plan to buy other filters from you because of their good quality. Herebelow are the Saturn pictures I took ast week through your filters. Feel free to use them at your convenience.O. Meeckers

6/10/2024 7:21 PM Baader 2" ClickLock Diagonal Mirror M68 thread (Zeiss)
Does this prism come without the ClickLock? I would like to go M68 to M68 for imaging. If yes, what is the price and item number? Is Answered? Yes (1 answer)
Answer rated: 0This diagonal is supplied with a 2 inch Click Lock on the eyepiece-side and a M68 male thread on the telescope-side. If you also want to use an m68 thread on the eyepiece-side, then you need the M68 female adapter with the part no. #2458234. We recommend the adjustable pin type face wrench ø 2mm part no. #2450062 for installation of this adapter.Answer by: Baader Web Team (Admin) on Jun 11, 2024 7:51:00 AMRated: 06/8/2024 5:08 PM Universal Alan Gee II - Telecompressor (UAG II)
Would the Baader - Universal Alan Gee II - Telecompressor work well with my NON-ACF Meade LX200 10” SCT? I usually use for monocular visual astronomy.
Thank youIs Answered? Yes (1 answer)
Answer rated: 1It is worth trying, but because we developed the Alan Gee mainly for the Celestron C8 and the performance depends (among others) on the distance to the optics, we do not know how well it will actually perform with a Meade Schmidt Cassegrain - we never had a chance to test it.Answer by: Baader Web Team (Admin) on Jun 10, 2024 8:49:00 AMRated: 16/6/2024 7:01 PM Baader 2" Cool-Ceramic Safety Herschel Prism Mark II – (Visual / Photo)
Should one add an UV/IR filter to the optical train as an extra eye protection for visual? If yes, would the #2961570 suffice or should a KG3 glass filter also be added in order to take care of all IR up to 5000nm?Is Answered? Yes (1 answer)
Answer rated: 2The Herschel prism allows only 4.6% of the sunlight to pass through. This applies to all wavelengths, including UV and IR. Nevertheless, additional filters are of course necessary to make visual observation pleasant and, above all, safe. For visual use, you must always use an additional filter behind the Herschel wedge and the ND3 - this may be the Solar Continuum (which is included with the Herschel), another ND-filter or the single 2" polarizing filter #2408342. This filter can be mounted either inside of the 2" eyepiece or in the 2"/1,25"-reducer; if you rotate it, you can change the brightness according to your needs by rotating the eyepiece/adapter.
An additional IR-cut-filter is not necessary for visual use if you use the filters included with our Herschel wedge; it *may* be helpful to achieve sharper images with a CCD if the camera does not have an integrated IR-filter - but then you will usually need the filter for deep-sky-photography, too.Answer by: Baader Web Team (Admin) on Jun 7, 2024 8:14:00 AMRated: 36/4/2024 12:42 PM Baader 2" ClickLock eyepiece clamps (from T-2 to 4,1")
