Yes, the orientation of the filter can affect its optical performance.

You can use our Baader Filter Frontside Indicator (Black rim facing the Telescope / no rim facing the camera) to determine the correct mounting direction for our unmounted Filters: https://www.baader-planetarium.com/media/wysiwyg/filter-frontside-indicator.gif

For our mounted 1,25" and 2" filters, the filter glass is already installed in the correct orientation within the filter cell. Simply install the filter with its threaded side facing the camera.

FAQ - Team Baader / November 25, 20221 Answer

For (much) larger DSLR lens sizes up to 100 mm aperture you might consider our 100x100x3 mm square photometric SLOAN-Filters: https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/filters/photometric-filters.html. Especially for work in UV, the SLOAN-U filter (#2961707U https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/filters/photometric-filters/sloansdss-u%27-filter-%E2%80%93-photometrisch.html#425=1695) is a viable alternative to our time proven U-Venus-filters (https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/baader-u-filter-(venus-and-uv---350nm).html") - offering a very similar transmission window but up to 100 mm sq size: https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/sloansdss-u%27-filter-%E2%80%93-photometrisch.html There even is a clever way to hold that huge size filter in front of most any DSLR-lens by obtaining this holder and doing a minimal change that converts this holder from accepting two filters of 2 mm thickness into accepting just one filter w. 3 mm thickness - with a mere screwdriver (sorry for the german Amazon-link): https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07FL3YNHB?pd_rd_i=B08KVZ8VWT&pf_rd_p=5f9972c1-184d-4e29-822a-e867654f66c0&pf_rd_r=5T5PNXXSSA4JVTRSN3QK&pd_rd_wg=6HR08&pd_rd_w=dE1wF&pd_rd_r=e8cc1e1b-747d-4193-acdf-981d7f2e81e4&th=1

Waqas Ahmad / October 10, 20161 Answer

Our largest cell mounted filters measure 2" (50.8mm) in mechanical diameter (having a metric thread of M48). The optical clear aperture is 46 mm. In order to ease the adaptation of our 2" filters onto most camera lenses, we do produce a 2" filter-holder, to convert from the ASTRO-2" Standard (M48) into a more common photo-standard of SP54 mm ("SP"means this is not a metric thread). For adapting any cell mounted Baader 2 inch Filter onto a camera lens with 52mm front filter thread you will need: #2408166 Baader DSLR 2" Filter-Holder M48 / SP54: https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/baader-dslr-2%22-filter-holder-m48sp54.html #2958052 Baader Lens-Adapter-Ring SP54 / M52: https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/baader-hyperion-dt-ring-sp54m52-for-dtadapter-iiandiii-and-hyperion-eyepieces.html Based on the SP54 thread, we offer many more adapters for various camera threads, our so-called Hyperion DT-rings. https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/catalogsearch/result/?q=sp54
