Important Information for Observing the Sun
Polarizer and neutral density filters need additional filtering (for example, Baader Herschel Prism or Baader Astro Solar Safety Film) before the eyepiece of the telescope for observations of the sun. Using without the appropriate filters can cause damage to the these filters and eyesight.

- Yes, our Neutral Density Filters are AR coated on both sides.Baader Web Team / October 13, 202300
- We cannot recommend to mount the filter this way. Even if the DERF will cut most of the energy, the filter may get warm enough to burst after a while because the glass expands in the filter cellBaader Web Team / July 15, 202120
- 1,25" filters fit directly onto the eyepieces; only the Hyperion Aspheric 31mm and 36mm require 2" filters. Most adapters from 2" to 1.25" also have a 2" filter thread, so that you can put a 2" filter into that adapter and use all 1.25" eyepieces with 2" filters. The focal lengths and true field of view of the (not Aspheric) Hyperions and Morpheus eyepieces are short enough that 1.25" filters are sufficient.Baader Web Team / February 22, 202120
- The ND3-filter is included with the Herschel Wedge and must always be used for visual observations; it may only be removed if you are using a camera for projection and very high magnification/ long f-ratios. Only then can it be replaced with the ND1.8, if the image is too dark. For visual use, you must always use an additional filter behind the Herschel wedge and the ND3 - this may be the Solar Continuum (which is included with the Herschel), another ND-filter or the single 2" polarizing filter #2408342. This filter can be mounted either inside of the 2" eyepiece or in the 2"/1,25"-reducer; if you rotate it, you can change the brightness according to your needs by rotating the eyepiece/adapter. An additional IR-cut-filter is not necessary for visual use if you use the filters included with our Herschel wedge; it *may* be helpful to achieve sharper images with a CCD if the camera does not have an integrated IR-filter - but then you will usually need the filter for deep-sky-photography, too.Baader Web Team / July 3, 201740
