Both thread sizes come with our proprietary pitch - which is not the same for the female and male threads.
This is our own proprietary "emergency solution" for uniting a world were manufacturers all over the world copy from each other - to the point that there are almost a dozen different pitches in use for male and female threads. Traditionally US-companies used to do a UNF-based pitch and the rest of the world went for metric threads - but these do vary from 0.5 to 0.75.
For this reason it does not make sense to publish our non standard pitch because our pitch is made to cope with all existing metric and US-pitch standards - and as said - our solution has evolved from sheer necessity. It is a mixture of a queer pitch and under-/over-dimensioning . We will not want to declare this as a standard and get bashed up for it. It works for us and is a result of 20 years adaptation to fit our filters onto all crazy threads we have seen. And inspite of this - every now and then there comes another "dragonboat-eyepiece" were even our filters may not fit...
The QHYCFW3 Color Filter Wheel has been improved for compatibility. The original product can only be used to fix 1.25-inch mounted filters, while the updated version can be fixed with 31mm unmounted filters through the new-added screw holes.
Super Thin, Enclosed Motor
QHYCCD selected a high quality ultra-thin hybrid stepper motor for this filter wheel design. Compared to the PM stepper motor used in many filter wheels, the hybrid stepper motor has higher precision, smaller step angle, and is more expensive. The motor is enclosed to prevent dust from entering the motor, thus improving reliability and motor life. The direction of filter rotation can be reversed: The filter carousel can be rotated clockwise or counterclockwise to complete the rotation quickly which is very convenient.
The QHYCFW3 main body is cut from a single piece of aluminum by a precision CNC machine. The craftsmanship and finish are exquisite. When you hold the small design, you do not want to put it down!
No Backlash, Precision Positioning
Regarding the evolution of the motor drive, the filter wheels used a gear drive while this 3rd generation filter wheel uses a friction drive that with zero backlash. It also Positions and stoPs with high Precision
Two control modes: 4-Pin QHYCFW Port and USB Port
There is a switch button on the QHYCFW3. The serial port switch can accommodate fast switching between serial communication mode and USB communication mode.
QHYCFW3 support two socket mode. One is the 4PIN QHYCFW socket. If your QHYCCD camera has the 4PIN socket you can connect it directly with QHYCFW3. There is the 12V Power in the 4PIN socket . So it does not need any extra Power supply.
If you have no QHYCCD camera or the camera has no 4PIN QHYCFW socket. You can use the USB socket to connect with the computer. Anda the QHYCFW3 can be powered and controlled with USB Port. Please note the current requirement when using the USB cable is higher (780mA) than the USB2.0 Port can supply and some computer will limit the current to 500mA. In this condition, QHYCFW3 can draw the power from the QHYCFW socket port (the 6PIN RJ11 Port in the QHYCFW3) and you need a 12V to RJ11 cable to power the QHYCFW2. When using this method. The current drawing from USB cable will reduce to less than 100mA when motor rotating. (* The 12V to RJ11 cable is in the standard item list after 2019.4).
“A” Series Cameras with Filter Wheels: The QHY90A, QHY16200A, QHY695A/814A cameras are “All-In-One” camera systems that include filter wheels.
- The QHY90A has a 7-Position wheel for 36mm unmounted filters.
- The QHY16200A has either a 5-Position or 7-Position wheel that accePts both 2” mounted filters and 50mm unmounted filters.
- The QHY695A/814A has a 7-Position wheel for 36mm unmounted filters, or an 8-Position wheel for 1.25” mounted filters.
Small, Medium Large, Extra-Large
There are four versions of the 3rd generation QHYCFW3 filter wheel: QHYCFW3XL (extra-large size), QHYCFW3L (large size), QHYCFW3M (medium size), and QHYCFW3S (small size). Both the QHYCFW3M and QHYCFW3S are also available in a standard version and thin version. For details, Please see the specifications page.
- QHYCFW3S: Small size. The QHYCFW3S supports a carousel holding seven 1.25-inch mounted filters or a carousel holding six 36mm unmounted filters. The thin version of the QHYCFW3 is 15.5mm thick and the standard version is 20.5mm thick.
- QHYCFW3M: Medium size. The QHYCFW3M supports supports a carousel holding five 2-inch mounted or 50mm unmounted filters or a carousel holding seven 36mm unmounted filters. The thin version of this filter wheel is 17.5mm thick and the standard version is 21.5mm thick.
- QHYCFW3L und QHYCFW3XL: Large and Extra-Large size. The QHYCFW3L supports a carousel holding seven 2-inch mounted or 50mm unmounted filters. The QHYCFW3XL supports a carousel holding nine 2-inch mounted or 50mm unmounted filters, or a carousel holding seven 50mm square unmounted filters.
