TEC APO 140 FL Fluorite Apochromat
TEC APO 140 - the most popular size of all TEC telescopes TEC (Telescope Engineering Company) is now available as fluorite apochromat.
It is for everyone’s needs. The scope is light weight, portable, and can be used for visual or CCD imaging. With the suitable field flatteners and reducers a world of possibilities is open to you. Due to its optical design, even solar observation is possible, whether with H-alpha filters or whitish light using a Herschel Prism.
- The objective is housed in an aluminum cell, providing for excellent thermoregulation properties while remaining lightweight and strong.
- The optical assembly sits in a lightweight aluminum tube that utilizes anti-reflective coating and sharp-edged baffles throughout the interior and forget about collimation – after the scope leaves TEC, no adjustment is required.
- Each APO140FL F/7 comes equipped with a Starlight Instruments FTF#3545 Feather Touch Focuser that was designed in collaboration with TEC. This is Starlight Instruments’ largest rotating focuser with coarse and fine focusing 9:1 Planetary Reduction Assembly.
- The 2” locking metal collet is insensitive to temperature fluctuations and holds loads with high precision and concentricity.
- Able to accommodate a wide variety of eyepieces and mounts.
The previously already extraordinarily good device is now even better and convinces with an extraordinary color fidelity, which is in no way inferior to its larger siblings the 160 and 180 FL. Anyone who has ever been able to look through a genuine fluorite apochromatic will always remember the "crystal-clear", white image. Not to be neglected is the transmission, whereby fluorite is clearly superior to ED glass. While glass and ED glass (fluoride) still produce minimal stray light, no stray light can be detected with a fluorite element. The most impressive way to demonstrate this is with a green laser. The energy-rich green beam is clearly visible as a beam when it passes through all glass substrates - not only when it passes through the fluorite, as the laser beam remains invisible.

Solar imaging with the TEC 140 f/7 Fluorite Apochromat
On 2 June 2021, our customer Alan Jadanić sent us these amazing solar images taken with the TEC APO 140 f/7 Fluorite Apochromat (#1351005 , € 10650) . He used our kam unser D-ERF Energy rejection filter 135mm, a Solar Spectrum H-alpha Filter and the 2" Research Grade TZ-3 Telecentric System (3x focal length) (#2459257 , € 445) . Thank you! We would like to empahasise the multifunctional usability of the TEC APO 140 FL for DeepSky, visual observations and H-alpha. This optic can really be used day and night and is therefore a real all-rounder. Dear Mr. Baader, I have spent a few days with the TEC 140FL and a Solar Spectrum RG38 0,5Å filter and I must say that it is a very good filter both for visual observations and photography. The telescope for itself is an exceptional piece of astronomical equipment and with an excellent sharpness. With an ASTF 140 solar filter for white light, you can see the sunspots perfectly and even solar granulation is clearly visible. 25th anniversary of TEC - Apochromats of the top class
The "Telescope Engeneering Company" has long earned a reputation as a top-class telescope manufacturer. The family business in the US state of Colorado has been manufacturing telescopes of the highest quality in small series since the 1990s. Before TEC manufactured the first refractors in the year 2000 (regular production of APO140 started in 2002), TEC were offering Sitall mirror sets from LOMO (upto 1.4m) and MAKs from 150mm to 300mm. The distribution of these products is stopped. The three Petrunins are based on class instead of mass, therefore the delivery times are long! But the quality is also outstanding: TEC is one of the few manufacturers in the world that still masters durable oil-spaced triplet lenses. This results in particularly robust and stable optics that cool down very quickly and effectively. During the 15 years that Baader Planetarium has been importing TEC telescopes to Europe, only one oil-spaced lenses had to be renewed.
