Please take a look at this table to find out what AstroSolar filter fits best on your lense:
More about solar filters are here: https://astrosolar.com/en/
We do have:
M46: DT-ring SP54 / M46 #2958046
M49: DT-ring SP54 / M49 #2958049
M52: DT-ring SP54 / M52 #2958052
M55: DT-ring SP54 / M55 #2958055
So, you need:
- Baader DSLR-2" Filter Holder M48/SP54 #2408166
- One of the stepper rings above. They all have a female (inner) SP54 thread and a male (outer) thread
- A stepper ring from M46, M49, M52 or M55 to your M40.5-thread. One of these stepper rings should be easily available at your preferred photo-dealer
- Baader DSLR-2" Filter Holder M48/SP54 # 2408166
- Baader Hyperion DT-Ring SP54/M52 for DT-Adapter II&III and Hyperion Eyepieces # 2958052
You can screw all mounted 2"-filters into the filter holder which use the astronomical 2"-thread of aproximately M48x0.75 or M48x0.6 (we try to make our threads so that the common 2"-filters fit, although there is no real standard for this thread.)
Our filter-cells like # 2459252L are made for round filters with a diameter of 47,4mm and offer a free aperture of 46,9mm.
The height of the filters without thread is 6mm.
#2408343 for the eyepieces and a 2" for the star diagonal.
If you already own two single 2" polarizing filters, you can place one in the reducing adapter from 2" two 1.25" - most of them provide a 2" filter thread, or you can use one of ours: https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/accessories/adapters-imaging-accessories/eyepiece-clamps.html?filter_threads_eyepiecesided=516&filter_threads_lenssided=523
If you insert a 2" filter into the body of a Hyperion, it will act like a finetuning ring with the length of the filter height (6 or 8mm, depending on the filter cell) and increase the focal length of the eyepiece. These rings and their effects are described e.g. in this PDF: https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/downloads/dl/file/id/134/product/1210/hyperion_eyepieces_application_examples.pdf
# 2958058 - Baader Hyperion DT-Ring SP54/M58. They fit together perfectly as shown in the simulation video. However my 2” Optolong L-eXtreme filter will not pass through the front to engage the threads. I can install the filter from the inner side of 2408166 but then the filter may be facing the wrong direction. Please advise. Thank you.
You could use an empty filter cell as extension, e.g. Filter cell 2" Low Profile, 6mm height # 2459252L or Filter cell 2" classic (8mm height) # 2459252.
Or you could look for a tool to open camera lenses. With this, you should be able to open the filter cell and to turn the filter around.
Adaptation of 2 inch filters onto DSLR camera-lenses2 Inch Baader Filter Adaptation for DSLR Camera Lenses
Many astronomical filter-designs are perfectly suited for use with a DSLR-camera lens. Here we explain how to do this.
Our largest cell mounted filters measure 2" in mechanical diameter (having a metric thread of M48). The clear aperture is 46 mm.
In order to ease the adaptation of our 2" filters onto most camera lenses, we produce a general-adapter, to convert from the ASTRO-2" Standard (M48) into a more common photo-standard of SP54 mm. This ring is named: DSLR 2" FilterHolder M48/SP54 (item #2408166).
Individual lens adapters for most camera-lens threads are available to fit onto this filter holder. Larger lens threads may be utilized by adding another 62 mm stepper-ring.
Lens Adapter Ring: SP 54/M46 (#2958046) / SP 54/M49 (#2958049) / SP 54/M52 (#2958052) / SP 54/M55 (#2958055) / SP 54/M58 (#2958058) / SP 54/M62 (#2958062).
Step-up Rings (for cameras lenses with thread larger than M62): M62/M67 (#2968067), M62/M72(#2968072), M62/M77(#2968077), M62/M82(#2968082).M62/M67 (# 296 8067), M62/M72 (# 296 8072), M62/M77 (# 296 8077), M62/M82 (# 296 8082)
The animation right show how it works: The lens thread adapter (in this case M62 or M55 or M49) fastens onto the camera lens, next comes the Filter-Holder M48 (# 2408166) and lastly any 2" (M48) Baader-filter will thread onto the assembly.
