ASTRO-PHYSICS: Perfection in Optics and Mechanic

First-class refractors and innovative mounts for demanding astronomers

It is no big secret that ASTRO-PHYSICS also manufactures equatorial GoTo-mounts as well as a variety of mechanical and optical high-end accessories. The company, founded by Roland Christen in 1975, is well-known for its full-apochromatic refractors, which are still produced today and are legendary.

ASTRO-PHYSICS uses state-of-the-art CNC machine technology and hydraulic circular grinding machines to manufacture high-precision fitings. Almost every part is built from scratch in Rockford, Illinois. This does not only include the individual optics, but also the critical gears, circuit boards and components right down to the knobs and fittings.

The reliability of Astro-Physics mounts is legendary. Two "el Capitan" are working in the Antarctic for several years now, even at temperatures of -75° Celsius. Many of our customers use the same mounts for 20 years or longer without any problem and without failures.

The GTO 1100 and GTO 1600 series are especially remarkable, because they are fully transportable - despite their high instrument load. This is possible because the declination axis can be separated from the rest of the mount. Even the GTO 1600, with 90 kg instrument load, can be transported and set up by one person! In the case of the GTO 3600, the declination axis can also be separated, but this mount is transportable only to a limited extent and better used as a stationary mount. The MACH 1 completes the series. At the moment, the MACH 1 is the only mount of German design in its class, in which ALL cable connections to the telescope (CCD camera, electric focusing, etc.) are passed through the polar axis.

In short, ASTRO-PHYSICS stands for

  • sharp high-resolution optics
  • rugged vibration-free mountings
  • and easy-to-use, effective accessories.
