Is there an RT adapter to fit a Steeltrack focuser to a Skywatcher EQUINOX 80 please?
Thanks, Paul
Question by: Paul Chamberlain on May 24, 2017 9:35:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
We would love to see our Diamond Steeltrack on as many telescopes as possible. However we cant answer this question for certain, since we don't sell this telescope and thus don't know the thread sizes, backfocus and so on. You could send us your scope and we would inspect it and check if we have a fitting adapter - if not we could produce one.
If you don't want to send us your scope, we would need precise measurements of the thread sizes / pitch as well as measurements or specs from your telescope to evaluate the backfocus. Please send images of all measuring steps.

I am the owner of a Vizen ED103SWT refractor.
I would like to change the focuser with your steeltrack RT, is it possible? Wich kind of adapter is useful for?
Regards. Giorgio
Question by: Giorgio on Nov 18, 2017 7:09:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
There are so many different telescopes on the market and we don´t sell Vixen so please contact a Vixen dealer to be sure what thread is on your
telescop. As you can see under "related products" we have a M88x1 and M93x1 adapter availabe.

Will the BDS-RT fit on the Baader Vario 10X60 finder scope? Will I need an adapter? Which adapter?
Thank you,
Bob
Question by: Robert J Bridges on Oct 26, 2020 10:43:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
Unfortunately this wont work for the following reasons:
1. the focuser would be heavier than the scope
2. there is not enough backfocus.
3. the included standard sliding focus is the ultimate help to save on backfocus and it works precisely if the centering screws are pretightened with care.

Can this be used on a Zeiss APQ 150/1200? (without any modification, of course). Thanks
Question by: vland on Aug 26, 2020 4:15:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
This is possible without modification of the Zeiss telescope. But you will need an special manufactured adaptor to attach the focuser to the Zeiss telescope. This adapter costs appx. 125 EUR net plus shipping

Hi, is there a synta small format (86.4mm) RT adapter available for diamond steeltrack refractor focuser?
Question by: Jon Watkins on Apr 6, 2020 11:13:00 AM | 1 Answer(s)
The small Synta refractors don´t have the necessary backfocus and tube diameter for attaching the Diamond Steeltrack, therefore we have no adaptors created for this size

So far we had no plans to produce such an adapter, you're the first to request this. We will keep this in the "wishlist" but can't guarantee anything.

I have a 2 inch Baader Diamond Steeltrack RT. Can you please confirm the function of the tension brake screw? When this screw is loosened, both the coarse and fine focus knobs can be turned. However when I tighten this screw, the coarse focus knob locks, but the fine focus knob can still be turned and the drawtube and the fine focus knob move as normal. Also when I tighten this screw, focus shifts. Is this correct behaviour, or should tightening this screw lock both knobs and the drawtube. This is not clear in the manual. Thanks.
Question by: Paul Evans on Jun 28, 2019 12:02:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
What you are experiencing is normal. The tension brake screw, as the name suggests, is used to inrease or decrease the tension on the focuser, changing like this the force required to move the focuser. Eventually when the screw is tightened, it functions as a brake and the focuser doesn't move anymore. In this case, the coarse focus knobs cannot be turned, but the fine coarse yes. However this movement isn't translated into focus change due to a gearbox built in the mechanics of the focuser. As for the focus shift, it is a mechanical play created from the needed tolerances. When you tighten the screw, it causes the whole focusing mechanism to be pulled toward you, until it is totally play free.

I have a Scopos TL 805 and I would like to change my eyepiece because I have tilt.
I would like to have a clarification concerning the fixing of the BDS-RT (# 2957210).
Indeed, I have contradictory information. In the specifications, I see that the fixing is possible in 88mm dovetail but on this site:
https://agenaastro.com/baader-2-diamond-steeltrack-refractor-focuser-2957210.html
72mm dovetail receiver permits 360-degree rotation of focuser with single-screw locking.
He's talking about a 72mm dovetail.
Can you clarify this point or offer me a fixing solution?
cordially
Question by: Guillemet Pierre on Feb 19, 2020 3:12:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
The Steeltrack RT has got an 88mm dovetail (S88), on which the telescope adapter is attached to (an S88 to M68 adapter is included). Any adapter which is connected to this dovetail is locked by 6 screws (five headless screws to adkust the tension plus one large locking screw which can be operated manually without tools). If you open the large screw, you can totate the Steeltrack around every adapter which uses the S88 dovetail.
The Steeltrack doesn't come with a 77mm-dovetail, so I suppose that's just a typo on the website of Agena.

Much to our regret, we are unable to keep track of all industries telescopes and adaptation necessities. There are a number of dealers that specialize in adapting our equipment onto telescope-brands that we ourselve do not carry in our own portfolio. Maybe please do a google search using the necessary keywords to find a dealer that sells these brands and can give you advise.

We would need precise measurements of the thread sizes / pitch as well as measurements or specs from your telescope to evaluate the backfocus. Question by: Can I use this focuser with my Takahashi 76dcu? Is there an adapter that I will need? on Nov 13, 2020 12:37:00 AM | 1 Answer(s)
Does the S58 dovetail mean that the steeltrack effectively has a rotator built in? I mean, if I use an S58 dovetail to M48 adapter for example to thread into my imaging train, I could then clamp it down onto the steeltrack in any chosen orientation of the camera?
Question by: Paul B. on Mar 11, 2019 9:26:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
Yes, this is correct. The S58 dovetail features 6 x M2,5 headless setscrews. They can be loosened with the included 1.3mm Allen wrench to detach the integrated 2" standard clamp and to mount a S58 adapter / clamp in any position you want.

I would like to replace the factory fouser on my Sky-Watcher Evostar ProED 80 mm f/7.5 ED APO refractor telescope with your Diamond Steel focuser, but can't find the proper adapter. The factory focuser inserts into the optical tube and is secured with three screws. The screws pass through holes in the optical tube and then thread into the factory focuser. The focuser insertion depth into the optical tube 15mm and the inside diameter of the optical tube is 96,66mm.
Please advise

I want to put an Steeltrack on my Sky-Watcher 100ED Black Diamond dual speed. What kind of adapter would need?
Question by: Xavier on Nov 13, 2020 12:03:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
You need 2" BDS-RT Baader Diamond Steeltrack Focuser # 2957210 and probably one of the following adapters:
RT-Adapter Ø 97mm Diamond Steeltrack® (Synta / Celestron) # 2957282
RT-Adapter M90x1 Diamond Steeltrack® (Skywatcher) # 2957283
RT-Adapter M90x1.5 Diamond Steeltrack® (Skywatcher) # 2957284
Unfortunately, we do not have the specifications of all telescopes available, and sometimes models change, so we'd have to ask you to take a look a the adaptiion of your current focuser. Usually, it is either connected with a couple of screws, or through a thread. Unfortunately, SkyWatcher uses two very similar questions. If the thread isn't specified in your telescope's manual, you can easily measure it - we have described here how to measure a thread:

We are not a dealer of Orion telescopes, so we can't give a definitive answer on what adapter you will need.
Please make sure to inquire about the inner diameter of the OTA at a dealer.
For refractors with 97mm inner diameter, we offer a RT-Adapter (# 2957282) to connect the BDS-RT Diamond Steeltrack®.

Question by: Kevin Walker on Feb 21, 2020 7:55:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
Obviously this telescope you can get in three different versions (Essential Line, Professional Line, High-End Line) with different focusers.
We don´t know what type do you have. Maybe ask a dealer who is selling this telescope to find out out what thread is in use to connect the
focuser. So far there are so many different brands and types on the marked we cannot have all informations about. Unfortunately Explore Scientific
doesn´t offer those necessary data. A data sheet for the Steeltrack you can find here:

Question by: Stephen Campton-Jones on Aug 18, 2019 12:26:00 AM | 1 Answer(s)
As a Ritchey-Chretien is similar in design to a Schmidt-Cassegrain, we'd recommend the 2" BDS-SC Baader Diamond Steeltrack® Focuser
# 2957220 for Schidt-Cassegrains with 30mm travel. It has got 2" (50,8mm) and 3,3", UNC threads (the standard SC-threads).
The 2" BDS-RT Baader Diamond Steeltrack Focuser # 2957210 offers 80mm of focus travel and may be used if there is enough place inside of the telescope for the moving inner part of the telescope (if the baffle inside of the telescope isn't too small).
I couldn't information about the connecting thread of the telescope, maybe you'd have to ask someone to make an adapter to SC-thread for you.

Do you manufacture a Steeltrack to fit onto a flat plate of larger telescopes? I need one to fit a 20" RC telescope that has a machined flat back-plate that fits flush onto the telescope and is then drilled to accommodate different equipment. Ideally we would like a Steeltrack attached to a flat plate with mounting holes that we can then attach to the telescope back-plate by four screws.

Please spend a look at this Item:
https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/flat-base-plate-(96x96mm)-for-bds-nt.html
Actually it is made for the BDS NT (Newton) and is 5mm thick. As you can see in the technical drawing the 88mm diameter
dovetail is 7mm high so the body will overhang the 2mm at the telescope side. Certainly it should be easy to fill this distance
to make it possible using the BDS RT onto the telescope. Anyway please see the drawings carefully that may be the inner
tube of the BDS don´t collide.
