Dear Sir,
I use a Baader T-2 prism diagonal with a 1,25" clicklock eyepiece adapter. If I insert the Zeiss Abbe barlow lens into this clicklock will this not hit the prism inside the diagonal? I ask because the 1.25" sleve of this barlow seems much longer than the 1.25" clicklock eyepiece adapter I use??
Thank you very much!
Best Regards

Do you know what the lens element to imaging plane distances are for 2x, 3x and 4x operation? Also the text says no loss of quality at 3x then elsewhere it says no loss of quality up to 4x. Is 4x okay or is that a misprint?

To get this Balow to 3x, which Varilock should I buy? The Varilock 29 or the Varilock 46? Thanks a lot.

Can we use this barlow after a Wynne coma corrector (Asa Korr4 '') for a Newton f / 3.
Could the fast f / 3 aperture be a problem?
Thank you.

When I use the barlow and Varilock does it work like a zoom eyepiece? Is there anything else I need? Thanks.

Do you have any transmission information for this barlow in the 300-400nm range? The transmission curve shown suggests a very steep fall off. We wish to offer a 2x barlow for imaging Venus with the U filter and this may or may not be suitable.

What is the exact focal lenght of this barlow?

Direct T-2 Adaption possible - extends magnification up to 3x - without quality loss

The Carl Zeiss Abbe Barlow lens consists of two parts. The front barlow section ends with a photographic T-2 thread suitable to directly connect onto standard DSLR T-rings. , at the separation level a T-2 photo thread - mounted with our Baader ClickLock eyepiece clamp with the known rotary clamping system. A direct T-2 adaptation is possible.

An enlargement of the imaging scale up to three times is possible without loss of quality. On the first T-2 thread you can connect normal T-rings, so you have a 2x Barlow lens - with 1¼ " barrel - in front of every camera, webcam or DSLR camera housing. If you add T-2 extensions the magnification can be extended by up to 3x. We recommend using our T-2 Varilock clamps for stepless adjusting of the optical length: Varilock 20-29mm (# 2956929) or Varilock 29-46mm (# 2956946)

Spectral transmission curve of the Zeiss Abbe Barlow

This (german) document attests to the exceptional performance of the multi-layer anti-reflection coating applied onto the new 2016 Carl Zeiss Abbe-Barlow-Lens made in Jena / Germany. Carl Zeiss has chosen to develop and apply the very best coating ever made available to the most discriminating visual observer. The coatings feature a 0.2% loss over the exact spectral region where the night-adapted human eye is most sensitive. This extremely high efficiency also translates to near-zero coating scatter for the highest contrast ever seen. No lens-system has ever been coated to more stringent requirements for visual observation and for VIS-photography as well.

After a view months of usage
My last review still stands, but...
I noticed that the outer edges of it's full field of view are fuzzy.
So for astro-imaging at 1,6x,(without click-lock straight on to my astro camera with T2) I recommend only a Micro Four Thirds sensor, then you get will get a supreme image.
It's probably why they sell it as a 2x to 3x barlow.
In this case it's fuzzy edge will be gone.
  • Very sharp optics with no aberrations.
  • Fuzzy outer edges over the full field of view at 1,6x
The lens is quite exposed, so be careful with your coating.
Thanks for your kind review(s)! It is true that Carl Zeiss had indeed designed this lens system for 2x to 3x only.

My first Zeiss optics
I'm quite critical, and love quality in my optics.
I used a Powermate 2,5x but I didn't like it photographically, because of a hotspot in the centre, and a haze over the photo.
This Abbe is twice the money, but three times the quality of the powermate.
It is pin sharp, and very high in contrast. I didn't see any barrel distortion, and it has negligible Chromatic Aberration
High quality optics.
  • Very High Quality Optics, Ultra short (when you don't use click-lock)
