Please note: We offer ANDOR cameras exclusively for astronomical applications and satellite tracking. This is in response to requests from companies, institutes and amateur astronomers to integrate these high-quality special cameras into telescope systems and observing stations.

Andor's product portfolio incorporates a range of high-performance detector solutions for Astronomy, from high time resolution sCMOS and EMCCD cameras to slow scan CCDs. Across each technology category, low noise floor and back-illuminated QE options are common, as are very large area sensor solutions for maximum sky coverage. Crucially, Andor’s cameras for Astronomy stand for superb quality, vacuum innovation and ease of maintenance, intended to maximize your observing time and to minimize cost of ownership.

Andor’s cameras for Astronom:

  • sCMOS series: up to 16.9 MP and >90% QE options for high time resolution and large FOV applications
  • iXon EMCCD series: single photon sensitivity, high QE and frame transfer structure for applications like Adaptive Optics, Speckle and Lucky Imaging, as well as Exoplanet Studies
  • iKon CCD series: up to 16.8 MP back-illuminated and low-noise CCDs for broad range of astronomical applications, including a variety of sensor options

A first experiment with an ANDOR camera on a high end amateur telescope took place in July 2020 on La Palma, in cooperation with the well-known astrophotographer Christoph Kaltseis. It turned out that due to the sensitivity and the clean signal of the ANDOR cameras, excellent images can be obtained in a significantly reduced time. Surely the potential of the ANDOR Marana was used only rudimentarily in this test. Resourceful amateurs will in future explore the interaction of smaller telescopes and ANDOR cameras even further and achieve previously unattained results.
