What material is the RDF made of? Can it be mounted on a Celestron Nexstar Evulotion ?
Question by: Henrik S. on Feb 15, 2017 9:08:00 AM | 1 Answer(s)
The material is mostly ABS-plastic material. The Sky Surfer III can mount onto any Celestron tube that is equipped with the two screws for holding a Celestron finder - plus it has the proper shoe to fit into Vixen/SkyWatcher finder ports.
See the detailed instructions under the tab "downloads" that explain the amount of adapters being the most extensive offered anywhere.

I need to replace a broken RDF on a Meade ETX LS-8 Telescope. Is it possible to fit this to it? If so, how does it fit?

I wish to mount my Skysurfer III on a Meade 6" Maksutov OTA in place of the regular Meade finder scope. None of the supplied brackets will fit. Specifically, the "standard finder scope" bracket is too wide for the Meade fitting. Do you have a bracket I can use?
(BTW the 6" LX85 Mak does not have other mounting points on the rear OTA rim).

If none of the brackets fits, you can always replace the finder base on the telescope with Baader Standard Base - for MQR III&IV, for Witty One & for V-Bracket # 2457000. You can probably also replace it with Sky-Surfer III – tube adapter set made of ABS # 2957303 which is already included with the SkySurfer III.

Does it require batteries and if so what kind and where do they go?

Battery is necessary and included. Its mounted on the bottom of the front side of the finderscope. Its a little Lithium cell.

Re Skysurfer III : What is the FOV (deg) that the 30mm aperture provides. It is not mentioned in the manual.
Question by: Chris Payne on Aug 11, 2021 12:15:00 AM | 1 Answer(s)
It does not really have a field of view – it displays a red dot on a glass disc with ca. 30mm diameter. But as it doesn't have any magnification, the "field of view" depends on your distance from the SkySurfer – just paint a 30mm-circle on a piece of transparent plastic or cut a 30mm-ring out of cardboard, then you can imagine the field of view depending on your distance.
Because of the coated glass, you can see the red dot between the stars with the plastic holding ring as an aid to find the red dot. The larger piece of glass makes it easier to locate both the red dot and the target at the night sky, while providing a better protection from dew.

Can this product be mounted on the hot shoe of a DSLR.
Question by: Ron Giddy on Jun 15, 2019 10:21:00 AM | 1 Answer(s)
This is possible with the adapter #2957301 (which is unfortunately out of stock at the moment) as well as with other hotshoe adapters which support the Weaver & Picatinny rails.

Can the Sky Surfer III be connected to a AstroPhysics A3251 male dovetail adapter (14 mm. width) ?
Question by: Javier on Jun 18, 2018 9:55:00 PM | 1 Answer(s)
Unfortunately this will not fit. The dovetail on the base of the finderscope has around 32mm width and will not fit in a 14mm clamp
