Next to the photographic only version, there is also a visual version that contains all parts of the base elements as well as additional adapters for visual application:

- 2458403: Visual Version (V-1 Set) contains all parts of the photographic Version MPCC Mark III #2458400A as well as 1¼" to T-2 focusing eyepiece clamp (#2458125) and adjustable VariLock T-2 extension tube 20 – 29 mm (#2956929)

Please note: This set replaces the former set #2458402 for visual and photographic application of the MPCC Mark III. The old set consisted of a multitude of rings – but was not adjustable in optical length such as this V-1 set.

I bought the MPCC to use with a Skywatcher Explorer 150d newton. Using an asi294mc, the only way I will get focus at infinity is to screw the corrector directly in the 11mm m42-m42 ring that comes with the asi. Adding spacers to reach 55mm doesn’t work. I am thus far from that 55mm that is supposedly required to reach focus. Any idea about what is happening here??

Will it work properly if the coma corrector base element/main body is screwed directly into the 2" barrel of the Hyperion Zoom eyepiece?

The Nikon Z-cameras have got a back focus of 16mm.
The Wide T-ring need 8,3mm, no matter if you use it with T-2 or with the additional S52 / M48 adapter #2958552

The MPCC requires 55+/-1mm distance, when used with T-2 or the optional Baader M48 Spacer Ring for MPCC III / Protective EOS T-Ring
# 2458405, or 57,5+/-1mm when used with the M48-thread, but without the adapter #2458405

If you use either T-2 or M48 with the adapter #2458405, you need an additional 30.7mm-extension (+/-1mm) in T-2 or M48.
For T-2-this can be done e.g. with
2x Baader T-2 / 15 mm Extension Tube (T-2 part #25A) # 1508154
1x Set: T-2 Fine-Adjustment rings (0,3 / 0,5 / 1 mm) - Aluminium # 2457910
or
1x Baader VariLock 46, lockable T-2 ExtensionTube 29-46mm with spanner tool (T-2 part #25V) # 2956946

For M48, we do not have the spacer rings yet, but you could use
2x M48 Fine-Adjustment ring 1mm (gold) - Aluminium #2457918
1x Baader Hyperion Finetuning-Ring, 28 mm # 2958228

If you use the MPCC without the optional adapter #2458405, you need a 33.2+/-1mm-extension - for this, we do not have a solution at the moment.

For a fullframe camera, we'd recommend the M48-adaptation because of its larger clear aperture.

I cannot get backfocus.
I am using an Orion Thin Off Axis Guider and a Full Frame Canon 6D Markii.
Your specs require the MPCC to be converted to M48 and for full frame the back spacing needs to be 57.5mm. But there is no adapter available on the market to get the extra 2.0-2.5mm I need.
Canon SLR 44mm
Orion Thin Guider 11mm
Scope is a GSO 200mm F4 Newtonian.
I have tried it using the M42 method with severe vignetting due to it not being full aperature and full frame camera in use.
I am out of ideas and would appreciate your help.

On the image, I have a high circular reflection caused by the filter with the following setup:

Telescope: Newton 1000/200 F5
Camera: QHY294C
QHYCCD filter wheel CFW3M 5x50,8mm with:
Baader Narrowband CCD Filters 2" mounted OIII 8.5nm, SII 8nm, H-alpha 7nm
2" MPCC Mark III (back focus OK)

The reflection does not disappear when using flats.
Do you have any suggestions?

I am using the MPCC with a ZWO ASI1600 and an f/4.9 Newtonian. The spacings are all correct and it works great. To get a wider field of view, I would like to add a 0.5X focal reducer. This would effectively make the telescope about an f/2.5. How would you MPCC work in this situation. Would it still be able to eliminate most of the coma since the specs say the MPCC is good only down to f/3.5. What if I adjusted the spacing on the focal reducer such that the image was reduced only by about 0.7 yielding an f/3.5 focal ratio? Also what should come first, the MPCC or the focal reducer? Thank you

I would like to use a coma-corrector, for visual, on my f4.5 newton. Due to its price and performance, i find the mpcc mklll very interesting. I am interested on 2" MPCC Mark III Coma corrector, but I have a Sony Alpha 900 Full Frame camera. Even though I understand I can use it "as it comes" with some vignetting, I wonder what else would I need in order to fit it not with the normal T2 but with the 48mm option to get (supposely) full coverage.
I have seen that the T2 adapter I already have include something very similar to this (https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/baader-m48-spacer-ring-for-mpcc-iii--protective-eos-t-ring.html), so I wonder if I can just use the T2 adapter I have without that, or if I would need a different one, for example "Baader Wide-T-Ring Sony Alpha and Minolta Maxxum with D52i to T-2 and S52" (not sure if this is the one I have)
I am afraid once I have ordered the corrector I might end up needing something else...

Do you supply the MPCC Mk 111 without the recess in the barrel?
This causes difficulties when used with clamps with a copper ring.
No problems with a smooth barrel.

I have a ZWO ASI294MC Pro, which has 6.5mm of back focus, and I want to connect it to my MPCC. In your answer to Keith Krayanek's April 2018 question about a similar camera, you recommended spacers totaling 55mm. But adding 55m to 6.5.mm would equal 61.5mm. Is this number correct? Also, with a M48 mounting surface, do I need a total of 57.5mm of back focus (6.5mm + 51.0mm) or 64mm (6.5mm + 57.5mm)? Thank you.

I have 2'' MPCC Mark III and 2 cameras
DSLR Sony SLT-A99 and CCD QHY695A (according to FAQ back focus is 33mm without off axis guider and 46mm with off axis guider)

I would like to use this coma corrector for a 10" f/5 dobsonian mostly with the following eyepieces: 2" Televue Nagler 31mm, ES100 20mm (both of these focus with minimum focuser extension). I see you display the ES100 20mm used with this coma corrector with no extension and attached directly to the eyepiece. I also have ES92 17mm and 12mm eyepieces. How are these attached and do they require extensions?

I have purchased a Baader MPCC Multi Purpose Coma Corrector Mark III for use with my Celestron CN-8 f/5 8 inch Newtonian reflector. I am using a Canon 1100D DSLR and standard Canon T-Ring adapter. When these are attached they are then attached to the tube using the Celestron 2 inch eyepiece adapter.

The problem I am having is that I cannot get the camera to focus using the MPCC and 2 inch eyepiece adapter. I am at the limit of the telescope focuser which cannot move the camera near enough to the focal point of the telescope.

I would have thought that the MPCC/Canon/Celestron combination would be a common one yet it doesn't work.

Do you have any suggestions how this could be solved? For example, are you aware of a shorter 2 inch eyepiece being available? Is there an attachment that can fit in to the threads at the front/inside of the MPCC which would replace the 2 inch eyepiece and allow the camera sensor to reach the focal point?

This is indeed a special case. The Celestron's C8N Newton uses the T-2-thread under the 1.25" adapter to bring the camera close enough to the telescope (a camera requires ca 55mm more back-focus than an eyepiece). But this included T-2-adapter doesn't give you the option to mount any coma corrector in front of it.

We do have a S57-ClickLock (Skywatcher / Celestron) #2956257 which should fit into your focuser and is only 30mm long - maybe this saves you enough backfocus, perhaps in combination with moving the main mirror some mm upwards with its collimation screws.

On the other hand, we had no reclamations about the MPCC with a Newton concerning focus so far, maybe because most astrographers tend to replace the simple focuser with a better model like the 2" BDS-NT Baader Diamond Steeltrack Focuser # 2957230, anyway. But to mount it onto the C8N, you'd have to drill some holes into the tube, as shown in the installation video on the product site.

I'm sorry that Celestron's Newton doesn't provide a possibility to use photographic 2" accessories in a better way.

Please can I ask if I use an MPCC, a Baader Flip II, and a UFC (four pieces, T2 in and out) Is my desired Backfocus of 55mm inclusive of the whole stack, i.e do I subtract the BF of the Flip Mirror, the UFC and the connectors from the 55mm and only add what I need to total to that Distance?

I want a connecting ring between my Pentax K200D and the Multi Purpose Coma Corrector # 2458400. The coma corrector fits to a Newtonian telescoop from GSO (Guang Sheng Optical, Taiwan), the F4 model (reflector 200mm, focus 800mm). The only thing is that the register distance between the corrector and the filmplane must be correct for Pentax K. Registerdistance is the distance from last lenselement from a Pentax lens to the filmplane which is 45,46 millimeter.

Your website about your Baader T-ring tells, quote: “Represents the standard exact distance of 55.0mm from the front support surface of the T-ring to the image plane of the camera body forth”

Now, this 55,0mm is longer than the 45,46mm registerdistance from Pentax.
Does the ring still work and let focus?

The Pentax K indeed has got a flange focal distance of ~45mm - but this in fact is the distance from the (bayonet) lens flange at the front end of the camera body itself to the sensor inside the camera.

If you use a PENTAX T-2- T-ring-adapter (for instance our item # 2408302), you gain the exact additional distance to produce the required distance of 55mm with your PENTAX camera body.

55 mm is a well established industry standard for DSLR-T-2 rings (dating back to the days of SLR-emulsion films). Accordingly the T-2-rings matching different DSLR-cameras have got different heights. This is to provide a standard lens distance for any DSLR camera body, so that also third party lenses (Tamron, Soligor a.o.) can be used on any DSLR camera.

This is the reason why the MPCC had been designed for the 55 mm focus distance.

Today the standard has "softened" somehow with the advent of mirrorless 4/3 cameras and many other imaging tools that continue to replace DSLR-cameras these days. It is the reason why we have been designing a multitude of other variable length adapters like the "Vari-Lock-system". Also many modern telescopes do require larger light cone throughput than the T-2 standard can supply. For this reason the latest design of the MPCC even can unthread the T-2 male thread and be attached with the outer M48 thread supplied at the camera-end of the MPCC. However, finding the right parts for producing the correct sensor-distance is somewhat trickier than using the well established T-2 standard.

Several people have asked about using the M48 thread for use with Nikon F to M48 Mount adapters. You suggest using the EOS adaption which is no use at all. I would like to use the MPCC's M48 with an 8300 CCD system that has a 55mm Back Focus. How critical is the 55mm Back Focus? Would it still provide a sharp flat field for an 8300 sensor (22.5mm diagonal) at 57.5mm??

The backfokus tolerance is +/-1mm.

I'm not sure if I understand your problem correctly - in M48-configuration, the MPCC needs 2mm *more* of back focus. So, if your setup has got 55mm of backfocus, you are too close to the MPCC, at a distance of 52.5mm. By adding 1.5-2mm, you get into the specified distance. You can bridge this gap e.g. with our M48 spacer rings https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/m48-fine-adjustment-rings-(03--05--1-mm)---aluminium.html in 0.3, 0.5 and 1mm thickness. But more than about .5mm does not work - and this is only possible if the thread of your camera adapter is not recessed. Depending on how well the threads fit to each other, it might be a good idea to secure the camera with the camera strap at the telescope, so that it can't fall down.

On the other hand, if you have a camera adapter with S52-ring-dovetail, you can try the Baader M48 Spacer Ring for MPCC III / Protective EOS T-Ring # 2458405 - often, you can remove the T-2-thread and access a ring-dovetail.

But as the Nikon-F-bajonet has got a diameter of only 44mm, which is smaller than the lens of the MPCC and smaller than the sensor of the 8300, you can also use T-2 instead of M48.

To make full use of the larger diameter of M48 - e.g. for an Off-Axis-Guider or if you have a large camera bajonet - take a look at the RCC I, Rowe Coma Corrector # 2956800 which provides a much larger back focus and is designed to allow for an off-axis-guider between camera and coma corrector.

Coma corrector for Newton telescopes that neither reduces the focal length nor the image field of your telescope

Canon DSLR with Protective Canon DSLR T-Ring, M48 ring and MPCC for maximum clear aperture

The Multi Purpose Coma Corrector Mark III eliminates coma across the full photographic field without manipulating the focal length. The proprietory lens design has our Phantom Group™ wideband multicoating on all air to glass surfaces. This treatment delivers highest transmission combined with lowest amount of scatter and reflections across a very wide spectral range from UV to NIR. The original MPCC had been designed for an f/ratio of f4.5 to f6. The new Mark III however works exceptionally well even down to f3.5. Stars remain pinpoints across the field and the visual use likewise is made much easier - with the help of the 2" (M48) male filter thread at the eyepiece facing side.

Photographic Application

The base-element 2858400A is prepared for use with a DSLR and a standard T-ring, it can be used over the T-2 thread on all standard T-rings. Since the T-thread vignettes with cameras with larger sensors (such as full-format DSLRs), the T-2 thread can be removed. Then an M48 thread is free, and the free aperture increases from 38 to 44 mm. The M48 spacer ring for MPCC III / Protective EOS T-ring can be connected directly to the Protective CANON DSLR T-ring.

This means that you do not only have sharp stars in the entire picture but also illuminate large sensors!

Visual and photographic application

In addition, the MPCC can be used both visually and photographically. The V-1 set # 2454803 contains the necessary adapters for most eyepieces or cameras with a 1.25 "socket - a detailed description can be found in the manual, which can be can be downloaded as a PDF under the tab "Downloads". Eyepiece Projection - How good can it get?

Question: With eyepiece projection, the image at the edge is extremely blurred. What could be the reason for this? For eyepiece projection with our Morpheus and Hyperion (zoom) eyepieces, we recommend a distance between eyepiece and T-ring of 40 mm on full-frame cameras, in addition to the 55 mm that were the flange focal distance of all "SLR" and DSLR camera bodies for decades when a T-ring was placed in front. Only with a T-ring that maintains this distance can old lenses with a T-thread deliver sharp images. Eyepiece Projection - How good can it get?
We received the following question and found it important to write an extensive answer for other customers.

QUESTION: I purchased the Hyperion Zoom and the MPCC Mark III. Can you tell me how to adapt the eyepiece to the coma corrector?
I also want to use other eyepieces. How do I know the right distance between fieldstop position and the MPCC?

ANSWER:
It is easy to produce an adjustable 1¼" eyepiece adapter for the Baader-MPCC coma corrector, offering a variable optical length from 49 to 64 mm, by using the following two parts:
1. Baader focusing eyepiece clamp 1¼"/T-2 (item no. 2458125 / # 8a)
2. Baader VariLock 20-29 mm T-2/T-2 adapter (item no. 2956929 / # 25Y)
Combining these parts on top of the MPCC T-2-thread and rotating both adapters into the shortest optical length will provide an optical distance of 49 mm for an fully inserted eyepiece with 1¼" barrel. The MPCC is designer for a distance of 55mm to camera sensor or fieldstop.
That means, the fieldstop inside an eyepiece could be placed up to 6 mm above the (upper) end of the 1¼" eyepiece barrel, in order to adjust for the 55 mm optical distance of the MPCC, which is necessary for a coma free image.
Our Eudiascopic 35 mm eyepiece (having a field stop diameter larger than the 1¼" barrel diameter would allow) will exactly require these 6 mm inward travel, in order to position the eyepiece field stop at the 55 mm spacing required by the MPCC.

If the field stop of an eyepiece is exactly at the intersection between the 1¼" barrel and the eyepiece body, you only need to rotate the locking eyepiece clamp (#8a) all the way up to its upper end and use the locking screw to tighten the eyepiece clamp in that position. Now this mechanical combo would provide the required optical distance of 55 mm between the MPCC body and the start of the eyepiece body - this is the position were most eyepiece designers put their focus position / the field stop (= the image plane).

Our Hyperion Zoom MARK III has it´s field stop (image plane) also at the intersection were the 1¼" barrel ends and were the eyepiece body itself starts.

Part #8a is very convenient, primarily because it offers 6 mm of upward travel to adjust for another distance of the image plane very easily when changing eyepieces.

The VariLock-T-2/T-2 adapter offers another 9 mm of upward travel, with the ability to lock it down very strongly (with a steel locking tool supplied with the product). So in case an eyepiece has its image plane further down, inside the 1¼" barrel (as for instance our BCO / Baader Classic Ortho eyepieces with an 2 mm inward field stop, which are designed for Spotting scopes), then the VariLock can be expanded into a slightly longer extension, so that all 1¼" eyepieces of an existing collection could be brought to focus within the 6 mm travel range of the focusing eyepiece clamp #25Y. This will allow to precisely adjust all your 1¼" eyepieces to reach the necessary 55 mm MPCC-spacing, just by rotating the #8a focusing eyepiece holder.

Thanks to the locking provisions on both of these adapters, they can hold even the heaviest of 1¼" eyepiece designs. Note: the eyepiece will fit only if an eventual 2" eyepiece-barrel can be removed from the eyepiece!

If you need to find out the field stop position of competing brand eyepieces, we are sorry that we don't have all these data of such eyepieces (the market is all too big). Our competitors should have all such technical information on the web - just as everyone can find our technical info about our eyepieces (see here for Hyperion Zoom, Morpheus, Hyperion 68, Hyperion Aspheric and BCOs).

However – we are confident that the two Baader products explained above (# 2458125 and # 2956929) will provide enough flexibility for adapting most any 1¼" eyepiece onto the MPCC Mark III.
